Anecdotes 1

- Both Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan were second choice to play Laura Holt and Remington Steele. Steele's character was first offered to Anthony Andrews [Picture below]

- Laura's house, that appears in the first season and at the beginning of the second one, was Stepahnie Zimbalist's real-life home.

- Michael Gleason originally envisioned Mildred Krebs as a sexy young woman in her 30s.

- Remington Steele should have ended at the end of season 4 for the audience rates were terribly low. But the rumor of Pierce Brosnan being in the new 007's movie License to Kill revived the interest of people in the show. The producers took advantage of this unexpected plug and decided to make a fifth season. Besides, actors were still under contract.

- Some season 3 episodes were shot in France, Malta and Ireland because of the summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Famous Guest Stars

A large number of guest stars appeared throughout the five seasons of Remington Steele. Although they were not famous at the time, most of them made an amazing carrier on television and some even became internationaly renowed on the big screen.

Sharon Stone. She became a star in Basic Instinct but her carrier started on television. She was Jillian Montague in Remington Steele's episode Steele Crazy After All These Years (season 1).
A Martinez. Remember Cruz Castillo in Santa Barbara? He has a rich carrier on television (for instance The Streets of San Francisco, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation). He was Guy Nickerson in High Flying Steele (season 2).
Judith Light. She was Angela Bower in Who's The Boss , and played the role of Clarissa Custer in Remington Steele's Dreams of Steele (season 2).
Geena Davis
. She was Thelma in the famous movie Thelma & Louise. In Remington Steele, she played the role of Sandy Dalrymple in Steele in the Chips (season 3).
Barbara Babcock. She was Dorothy Jennings in Dr Quin, Medecine Woman. But she also played Marisa Peters in the two-parts episode Steeled With A Kiss (season 5).
Paul Reiser. He is mainly known as Paul Buchman in Mad About You, and he was Ivan Turbell in the episode A Good Night's Steele (season 1).
Daniel Davis. He was hilarious and insolent playing Niles, the butler in the TV series The Nanny. He appeared in a lot of TV films and series (Dynasty, McGyver, Columbo, The Practice, Frasier) and was a revengeful restaurant owner in Remington Steele's episode Gourmet Steele (season 3).
Jane Kaczmarek. Maybe you don't know who she is. She's now Malcolm's crazy mother in the TV series Malcolm In The Middle. And she was Barbara Troy Dannon in Altared Steele (season 2). She also featured in Hill Street Blues, The Practice and Frasier.
David Garrison. He was Steeve, Marcy's first husband, in Married With Children. But he was also  Philip Marlowe in Remington Steele's Elementary Steele (season 2).

Two other special personalities may be added to the list:

Cassandra Harris. She was Brosnan's first wife. She appeared in 3 Remington Steele's episodes: she was first Felicia in Thou Shalt Not Steele (season 1) and Steele Searching (season 4). Then she was Anna Simpson in the episode Woman of Steele (season 2).
Efrem Zimbalist Jr. He is Stephanie Zimbalist's father. He embodied Daniel Chalmers, Remington Steele's mentor, in 4 episodes: Sting of Steele (season 1), Blue Blooded Steele (season 2), Steele Searching (season 4) et Steeled With A Kiss (season 5).

Evelyn

evelyn1Today's topic has nothing to do with Remington Steele. I've made a music video from Brosnan's movie Evelyn, which was released in 2002. I watched it last week for the very first time and I highly enjoyed it. Right click and "save as": download.

Read Amazon's synopsys:

Desmond Doyle is devastated when his wife abandons their family on the day after Christmas. His unemployment and the fact that there is no woman in the house to care for the children, Evelyn, Noel and Brendan, make it clear to the authorities that his is an untenable situation. The Catholic Church and the Irish courts decide to put the Doyle children into Church-run orphanages. Although a sympathetic judge assures Desmond that when his financial situation reverses, he will be able to get his children back; money is hard to come by. During that time, Evelyn and her brothers suffer the abuses of living in orphanages while Desmond struggles to secure finances. Now he must battle the courts to get his children back.

I really recommand you this movie if you've not watched it yet. Besides Brosnan's great performance, Sophie Vavasseur - who's his daughter in the movie - is absolutely amazing and touching!

Brad Kern

kernBrad Kern is a writer, director and producer for the television industry. He originally graduated in marketing and economics, but after winning about 20 awards in film festivals for a student movie he made, he decided to become a movie writer. His carrier started in 1981 when he wrote a script for the series Hill Street Blues. In 1984, he joined the Remington Steele's crew (see interview below) and quitted in 1986 at the end of the 4th season. Then he worked on The Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Nash Bridges, Loïs & Clark. He now writes, produces and directs episodes for Charmed.

Here is an exerpt from an interview made in February 2006. Brad Kern talks about how he started to work on Remington Steele.

"Let's jump back to the start for a second. How did you get involved in TV? How did you break into television.

I wrote and produced and directed the Steven Spielberg-like student film, sold everything I had, went broke, won 22 international film festivals, amateur film festivals, and thought at 21 years old that I was ready to have someone give me a feature to direct, and when reality hit me in the face I couldn't afford to make another student movie so I picked up a pencil and a piece of paper and I wrote a Hill Street Blues spec script which got the attention of Hill Street, and at the time MTM, which made Hill Street, and there wasn't any room on Hill Street so they sent my script over to Remington Steele, and they hired me. I got the job even though I hadn't seen Remington Steele before I got the job... I lied. I couldn't pay my gas bill, so I had to get a job - I sold everything, I was broke and they said, "So, what do you think of Remington Steele?" I said, "I love it!" So that's how I got into it, kind of backed into it. I wanted to be a film-maker and became a writer, and then I realized quickly in television if you can write you can actually become a film-maker, more-so than in the film world. As I worked my way up the ranks I was able to produce, and then I was able to direct, and right now I'm just doing more expensive versions of what I started off to do in film school."
